I am sorry to read of Yvonne's death. My mum Valerie (nee George) was Yvonne's second cousin and they grew up together at Woodchurch - Mum remembers visiting Yvonne when she was in London training to be a teacher in the early 1950s and queueing on the pavement overnight for Test Match tickets etc. Later on Yvonne taught my sister at the North School for Girls in Ashford, and was supportive to me when I was doing my Librarianship postgraduate diploma, which she had also done after retiring from teaching. Yvonne I miss seeing you coming along with hot cross buns every good Friday, ajar of marmalade if I had picked up some shopping for you that you could not get locally, sitting at your spinning wheel with a box of fleece at your feet or busy with your tapestry work - I have a lovely cockerel cushion that you made for me to say nothing of the VW camper van you made for me to give Sean for his Birthday. You were always busy doing something, the only time you were still was when Wimbledon was on and if it was Federer playing the curtains were drawn the phone went unanswered ! I remember seeing you marching across the Rype in wellies and raincoat soon after knee replacements refusing any offers of a lift "it is my daily exercise" would come the reply! I like to think of you busy organising all the angels up in heaven because I bet they don`t know what`s hit them up there!! R.I.P. my good friend and thanks for all the memories.

A memory of the a kind hearted polite lady i had the pleasure to care for. Always greeting me with a nod of the head and a request for a milky cup of tea....two sugars! The occasional cheeky wink which always made me smile. Hair so thick that we were all envious. A stroke for her furry friend for life in your soft ginger cat and a tap at the kitchen door followed by a shake of an empty mug. Always a little salute of appreciation as you walked up the hall sipping your tea. Never without your stockings and beautiful shoes. These are the things that I loved, but your humour is what I will miss most of all! I'm lucky to have cared for you, fly high Yvonne.

I remember Aunty Yvonne (as we used to call her) as someone who would always think of others before herself and give rather than receive. She made me feel part of the family straight away and always referred to me as her niece (I am her nephew's wife). I have very fond memories of our visits to her. Yvonne had so many different interests and she knew so many people that our conversations never dried up or became dull. She used to love feeding us whith either homemade chicken casserole or her 'carbohydrate feasts' as she termed them. When Noah and Spencer were very young she used to put interesting objects in a little wooden cabinet in her entrance hall for them to find and play with. Later on she always had a treasure hunt prepared for them which involved the boys looking in all the nooks and crannies of her house in search of hidden keepsakes. I know Yvonne wouldn't have wanted us to be too sad but to remember her with fondness and love. I have chosen this short poem by Helen Steiner Rice because it reflects Yvonne's poitive outlook in life and her hope for the next: There is no night without a dawning No winter without spring And beyond the dark horizon Our hearts will once more sing... For those who leave us for a while Have only gone away Out of a restless, care worn world Into a brighter day.
